Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta, has expressed disappointment in his team performance against Brentford in the opening match of the English Premier League.
The Gunners were defeated by Brentford on Saturday night, August 13, 2021.
Brentford, who are a newly promoted side in the Premier League, marked their debut with a 2-0 score over the Gunners.
S. Canos scored in the 22nd minute to give Brentford the lead.
In the 73rd minute, C. Norgaard wrapped up the match with the second goal of the night.
Speaking in a post match interview with Sky Sports monitored by African Entertainment, Arteta says “We weren’t good enough to beat them. We didn’t do the basics….we’ll review and speak with cool heads and try to put it right as soon as possible.”
Arteta says “I’m disappointed. It’s not the way we wanted to start the season. We didn’t start well, conceding a goal in an isolated incident. We didn’t cope well with the second balls or long balls. And that’s all they needed to create problems for us. Then we conceded from a long throw.”
He added that “The biggest worry was our threat in front goal. The amount of times we got around the box and got in great situations but it wasn’t enough threat or shots on target. If you don’t do that in the Premier League then you won’t win.”
Arsenal will host Brentford in the second leg on February 19, 2022.
