Biden Sending Money To Aid Ukraine

After enduring months of political deadlock, the House of Representatives finally passed the bill on Saturday. This legislation holds the promise of substantial support for Kyiv, as pledged by President Biden, contingent upon the bill’s anticipated approval by the Senate on Tuesday.

These assurances arrive in the wake of destructive Russian assaults, notably the recent demolition of a TV tower in Kharkiv. Video footage captured the dramatic collapse of the red and white tower mere seconds after Russian missiles struck it on Monday afternoon. Kharkiv, situated just 19 miles (30km) from the Russian border, bore the brunt of this attack.

Fortunately, local authorities reported no casualties, as individuals sought shelter during the assault. However, the strike severely disrupted television broadcasts in the region. Kharkiv has faced relentless aerial bombardments from Russian forces in recent weeks, prompting Ukrainian President Zelensky to assert that Russia’s aim is to render the city uninhabitable. He promptly informed President Biden of the attack, just moments before their scheduled call on Monday.

In a statement released by the White House following their conversation, President Biden reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. The administration pledged sustained assistance, emphasizing the importance of aiding Ukraine in restoring financial stability, rebuilding critical infrastructure ravaged by Russian assaults, and facilitating reform as the nation progresses towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

The aid package endorsed by the House over the weekend encompasses more than $9 billion (£7.28bn) in economic assistance, primarily in the form of forgivable loans. These loans represent a significant lifeline for Ukraine, with President Zelensky expressing gratitude for President Biden’s commitment. Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior aide to President Zelensky, hailed the fresh influx of U.S. aid as a much-needed morale boost for the nation, which has been enduring the ravages of war.
