Whitney Houston along with Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T.Rex are the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2020 inductees. The news was announced by the organization Wednesday.
This is The 35th annual ceremony. It will be broadcast live for the first time this year — May 2, on HBO, from the Public Auditorium in Cleveland.
This year’s performance lineup will inevitably be filled with tribute performances, as half of the inductees — Houston, Notorious B.I.G., real name: Christopher Wallace, and Marc Bolan of T. Rex — are deceased.
So who should induct Whitney Houston into the Rock and Roll Hall OF Fame Class of 2020? some are heavily voting for Mariah Carey. Mariah and Whitney have had a long stand sister like relationship. The two faced many obstacles as people compared them, but have maintained a friendship through it all. Brandy Norwood or Ray J would also be a great candidate as they were very close to Whitney and one of the last to speak with Whitney before she passed. Monica Brown as well, shared a friendship with Whitney. Whitney has supported Monica’s musical career since her very young years.
Other candidates would be Denzel Washington played her not-so-subtle love interest once upon a time in the 1996 flick The Preacher’s Wife, Janet Jackson who would be a great representation of the early 90’s image, Jordan Sparks who was chosen by Whitney to play Sparkle in the movie “Sparkle”, and Kevin Costner worked closely with the late R&B singer in The Bodyguard from 1992.
Socialites are also discussing the diversity of the inductees. Whitney is the only female, and two of the six nominees are black. The Hall’s past inductees are overwhelmingly white. The nominations also reach across several time periods, with the Doobie Brothers and T. Rex dating primarily from the 1970s, new wave icons Depeche Mode and pop superstar Houston from the ’80s and ’90s, and alternative-rock titans Nine Inch Nails and Notorious B.I.G. dating from the ’90s and, in the former case, into the ’00s.
