Jay-Z says Trump’s comments on the shit hole nations are saddening, but this has been going on. Jay says instead of cancelling people out there are conversations all the time, at some point those conversations need to be addressed. He brings up Donald Sterling’s exposure of racist remarks that took place on a private phone call. Jay-Z said it would have been optional to let him have his team and instead have a talk about racism together. Jay says the free world hasn’t taken care of the problem, they have covered it up and created a super bug. Jay also says that Trump’s reaction are due to pain that happened in his life and he is now expressing it in some way.
Other rappers such as Rapsody, feel that Trumps election has allowed hip hop to be geared in a more political and informative direction. A direction in which was not so popular prior to. Rapsody says “Trump really took the sheep off the wolf, he removed the curtain, and it’s like this is really America. It’s 2017 and we still have people coming out with torches and with hate in their heart for the color of somebody’s skin or someone else’s religion”.
David Banner also commented saying “I’d rather an ugly truth than a beautiful lie”. Banner tweeted this the day after Trump’s election. He says “why do you wish someone else was in office? is it so the snake can go back into the grass? no, let it show it’s head so we can deal with it”.
