Can you name the three times viewers caught Jeannie Mai crying in public. Let’s just say she has learned that sometimes you have to get knocked down just to get back up. It all started in 2018 when Jeannie Mai’s break up with her ex had her looking a bit tired. the two were married for 10 years. Allegedly, they had not come to terms with having children or focusing more on her growing career. In en episode of her previous talk show Mai stated “Before we got married, I was very clear about the fact that I probably would not have kids, just because I’ve never felt that. And now, getting older, he definitely seems like he wants kids, and he actually came out and said that he wants children.”
On October 9th 2019 Jeannie Mai hosted The Real with crew Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Tamera Mowry and co host Tisha Campbell while she spoke about her marriage and divorce from ex-husband Freddy Harteis. Jeannie explained how being with Jeezy opened up her eyes to a whole new level of support. This is not the first time she cried about hr relationship. Previously she cried on the show saying “She wished she had know sooner in life”.
“My own standards were low,” she explained.
“We can go into a whole counseling session on why I only gave myself the bare minimum,” she went on to say before addressing her ex, Freddy Harteis.
“I am not blaming my ex for the things that he barely came through to do…when [Freddy] said things like ‘good for you’ or ‘that’s cool,’ I’m like, that’s great, he supports me! That to me is my standard of support.”
“I didn’t even know until my new relationship that something as basic,” she said before beginning to cry.
“I’m not crying to feel bad. It was just so touchy. But even something as basic as like at his birthday party, he left his own birthday to drive me to the airport,” she said of Jeezy.
“He was like ‘are you kidding?’ I want to see you off.’”
“You can blame [your exes] but just be mindful of your standards…sometimes being alone in that time I took for myself, was my upgrade.”
Jeezy apparently doesn’t fault Jeannie on her divorce with Freddy Harteis. Jeezy recently show Jeannie how much he supports her by proposing to her over a romantic “date night” in their Los Angeles home.
Jeezy (born Jay Wayne Jenkins) had planned to propose during a trip to Vietnam, but with travel plans canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, he instead popped the question during a candlelit dinner he planned.
On Monday morning the virtual chat caught Jeannie Mai crying on The Real. She admitted that the proposal was surreal. It came unexpectedly as plans were derailed from the pandemic. Jeannie said, “He did exactly what I know him to do during a time where you would think life would stop. J continued with life no matter what,” she told her cohosts. “And when it comes to marriage, it’s not just the perfect moments, it’s really about those times, who are you, who is your character when things hit the fan. To see him be the relentless, tenacious man I fell in love with, it puts a whole new meaning to this ring to me.”
Jeannie admitted at one point she didn’t even want to get married again.
“You feel like you failed, you feel embarrassed, all those people that were there at your wedding, all those people who were excited for you,” she explained. “You get jaded. I remember telling you guys, ‘I’m not getting married again.’”
“The divorce hurt, people change, people behave in ways where you didn’t expect it,” she recalled. “You see things in people and it makes you completely not able to trust anybody after that.”
So what made her change her mind? Jeannie says her and Jay healed each other. She said the “only reason I recognize healthy love with Jay today is because I took that time to love myself.” She also said she never gave up on love and thus her final tears in public are tears of joy.
