Kevin Hart Admits He Was Once Envious of Nick Cannon

Kevin Hart is getting candid about his bromance with his “Real Husbands of Hollywood” co-star Nick Cannon

Earlier this month, social media was left in stitches after Hart shared videos of himself receiving a llama “for a few hours,” sent by the “Wild N’ Out” host, who had recently welcomed his seventh child and wanted to celebrate that moment with the “Fatherhood” star. Hart later plastered Cannon’s phone number alongside a photo of Hart himself and the llama on digital billboards in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York.

It appears to be all laughs between the two stars, given the hilarious exchange. However, during a recent episode of the “Night School” star’s newest series “Hart to Heart,” the 42-year-old admitted that he was once envious of the former Nickelodeon child star.

“There was a high amount of envy early on in our careers because I remember you were clicking so fast,” Hart began. “It was like, you were putting the beats together so quick, and I will never forget the ‘Drumline’ opportunity in the movie and when you were cast in it.”

He continued, “Every young Black actor Hollywood actor at the time … everybody … this was a role of a lifetime, for so many. And I remember when you got the part, and there was no animosity, there was no ill will, like, ‘Damn, I can’t believe I didn’t get it. Damn, it went to Nick Cannon. Ahhh!’ It was like, ‘That’s a good dude, man. That’s a good dude, he deserved it.’ And you not only rocked that opportunity, but as others came, you know, we developed a great energy, and it’s always been that yin and yang.”

The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” actor explained that, as someone who understands the urge to want to achieve your dreams, he saw no foul in his friend’s admission. Cannon told Hart he also understood his perspective, especially “when you’re out here, and you’re like ‘I wanna get that spot, that grind.’”

In addition, Cannon stated that aside from their seemingly aggressive yet playful banter; he’s “been nothing but proud of” the actor.  He noted, more than anything, “When we would watch cats that we, ya know,  looked up to, whether it’s the Eddies’ [Murphy] or the Kenans [Thompson] and stuff, we saw a cool little blueprint. Like, ‘Oh! Kev does this sh-t amazingly, Nick does … and so, it was always because we were clicking on so many different levels that all I could do was learn from you. All I could do is want to move that way.”
