Shaunie O Neal wasted no time removing her former last name after marrying Pastor Keion Henderson.
As we reported before, the couple wed in a private ceremony Saturday, May 28 at the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club. Bishop TD Jakes officiated their nuptials. The Basketball Wives exec walked down the aisle as Yolanda Adams sang.
Additionally, all five children attended along with the 200 guests. Other attendees included “Basketball Wives” star Jackie Christie and Evelyn Lozada and the legendary Isley Brothers, who performed at the couple’s wedding reception.
In honor of their union, Shaunie has removed O’Neal from her bio on Instagram, which now reads “Shaunie.” And it seems her friends are embracing the name change as well.
Along with a video of her and her new hubby, she shared a caption on her page as she dared a boat ride with him.
“The things you do for love! I handled it like a champ though 💪🏼 all things considered!”
On Monday, May 30, the now First Lady Henderson shared screenshots of friends saving her name in their phones with the last name Henderson.
“Had to update the contact,” wrote former “Basketball Wives” star Lozada. Another person changed her name to say, “1st Lady Henderson,” to reflect her role as the first lady. BFF Evelyn Lozado also updated the First Lady’s new name.
As the couple enjoyed their wedding getaway, Pastor Keion teased his partner about the boat ride. “Mrs. Shaunie don’t like swimming, She can’t swim so she don’t like it.” He continued, “My baby. I talked my baby into it. We’ll hear about it in a minute.” Shaunie responded, “Yes, you are buddy.”
Keion later asked his wife, “Can you swim?” and she replied, “You know I can’t swim.”
The new adventurous wife spoke in regard to the boat ride saying, “I handled it like a champ.”
The couple initially announced their engagement in November 2021 after two years of dating. Shaunie and ex-husband Shaquille O’Neal divorced for nearly 14 years. The marriage lasted from 2002 until 2011. Formerly known as Shaunie O Neal created VH1 show “Basketball Wives” to provide viewers with a look inside of the life of a players wife.
Due to infidelity and poor choices, Shaq recently spoke out about their divorce. He took accountability for the mistakes he made in their failed marriage during a talk last month on “The Pivot Podcast.” The NBA Hall of Famer said, “…I was bad. She was awesome. She really was. It was all me.”
He continued, “Look we don’t need to talk about what I was doing but I wasn’t protecting her and protecting those vows. Sometimes when you live that double life, you get caught up. So I’m not gonna say it was her; it was all me.”
