Reports say Members of Parliament in Sierra Leone have reached an agreement to bring an end to death penalty.
The death sentence in Sierra Leone is to be replaced by life imprisonment, the AFP news agency reported.
A report by Amnesty International said in 2020, an estimated 39 death sentences were handed down.
The last time someone was executed in Sierra Leone was in 1998.
President Julius Mazda Bio is expected to approve the abolishing of the death sentence, which will make Sierra Leone the 23 African country to have abolished death penalty.
