Taco Bell Employee Fired For Wearing Black Lives Matter Face Mask
A Taco Bell employee was seen in an argument with a manager for wearing his black lives matter face mask to work. 29 year old Denzel Skinner, posted the incident to Facebook. In the video the manager accused Denzel of promoting politics at work, and even asked him if he would be o.k. if someone wore something about white people to work. Clearly, the manager does not understand the importance of the movement behind black lives matter. The manager eventually told the taco bell employee (Denzel Skinner) that if he didn’t remove the mask there was nothing that she could do for him. She even claimed it was against store policy to wear a mask that wasn’t of solid color.
Eventually he walked out of the restaurant and said he was told by a manager not to come back. Denzel also stated that they were informed that they had to wear masks, but there were no guidelines on face coverings.
The Taco Bell owner, Yum! Brands Inc., said it was “disappointed” to learn of the incident, which happened last week but has since gained national attention, and that executives had spoken with Skinner and apologized.
“We have been working closely with our franchisee that operates this location to address the issue,” the company said in an e-mailed statement. “While our policies at restaurants do not prohibit team members from wearing Black Lives Matter masks, we are working to clarify our mask policy so this doesn’t happen again.”
In support of the Taco Bell worker, Twitter trended hashtags such as #RIPTacoBell, #TacoBellIsOverParty and #BoycottTacoBell.
The company has reportedly apologized to Denzel Skinner and also made it clear that they support the movement. No updates have been mentioned on the status of the managers position with the company
