Teyana Taylor was glowing at her album listening party on Juneteenth. The mommy has been rocking the music industry since she was 15 years old.
Her now third record, ironically called The Album, features guest appearances from big names like Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott and Erykah Badu and she chose an important day for the album’s release: Juneteenth. It’s a day for observing the end of slavery in Texas, the last state to free its slaves.
Speaking on the be album Teyana Taylor says, “I personally felt like it was only right,” Taylor says, “because it’s a celebration for my culture and my people, to show that no matter what we go through, we always pull through.”
Taylor was inspired by her pregnancy with Junie, saying, “Everything happened so fast,” Taylor recalls. “I pushed one time, she came out. It felt like a movie.”
The mom shares that inspiration on her current album by sharing snippets of the recording of the 911 call in which her husband, NBA star Iman Shumpert, is learning how to help deliver their baby.
Teyana Taylor had a frustrating rollercoaster with her last album which makes this album even more special. She told NPR, “Trying to put a lot of emotions through seven songs is tough. So now to have a full album, 23 songs, you get to literally express yourself and every single part of you.”
Baby Junie, Teyana Taylor’s first child joined her mom at the release party and entertained the crowd with her dance moves. Junie was also the first person to break the news to the public in a live video with her mom. The four year old wanted to kiss the baby. The singer then gave Junie a look that would say, we weren’t supposed to tell yet. Teyana’s party appearance shows her looking healthy and happy.
The party was filled with friends and family. Karreuche spoke out at the event saying “we’ve been through so much together. I am so proud of you. I can’t wait for the world to see Masterpiece. Look at you now and congratulations.”
Teyana is expected to deliver her second baby in fall.
