Sadly reported, Traci Braxton is dead at 50 due to battle with cancer, her husband Kevin Surrat speaks out.
In 1996, she married Kevin Surratt. They went on to welcome her only child, son Kevin Surratt Jr., on January 10, 1996.
Around the time Traci and her three sisters were about to sign a new record deal in the 90s, Traci became pregnant and chose to focus on motherhood instead of music.
“We have come to a time where we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatment for Esophageal cancer our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory,” her husband Kevin Surratt said in a statement to NBC News.
“When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this,” her son, Kevin Surratt Jr., said in an Instagram post Saturday. “She fought to the end and today she’s at peace.”
“I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she’s isn’t in pain anymore,” he added. “I love you ma I’m going to miss you.”
She also spent her last year in hospice, her publicist Perkins-Washington said

She also recorded the hit song “Last Call” in 2014, which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also recorded the song “Broken Things” four years later with her sisters, Toni, Towanda and Trina.
In an interview with told Shadow and Act in 2020 Traci said, “I’ve been doing very well for myself. And before my music career took off, I worked with emotionally disturbed adolescents for over 20 years. Traci is pretty smart, Traci has a little education. I was never a wanna-be.”
She worked to support charities and nonprofit organizations helping women and children facing health and societal challenges.
Braxton is survived by her husband Kevin Surrat, son Kevin Surrat Jr, siblings and parents.
