CANARSIE, Brooklyn (WABC) — A woman was shot in her Canarsie, Brooklyn, home Tuesday morning — apparently by a bullet that went through the window.
The 29-year-old woman was shot on East 102nd Street just after 7 a.m. after at least 10 shots were fired at the home.
At least two bullets pierced the window on the ground floor, another five on the second floor and Eyewitness News counted at least two spots on the top floor where the glass was shattered.
“I heard ‘boom, boom, boom, boom,’ rapid gunshots and I checked on my niece because she usually takes walks in the morning,” neighbor Rodlyn Daniels said.
Detectives believe the gunman was targeting another resident when he opened fire on the multi-family home.
They have identified a male resident who they believe was the potential intended target. He was not struck.
The 29-year-old victim appears to live in a different apartment than that man.
She went to Kings County Hospital with graze wounds to her left arm and right leg and is said to be stable.
“She was crying, she had a towel on her leg and was bleeding,” neighbor Eric Reyes said. “She was yelling, she needed help.”
Witnesses told Eyewitness News reporter Kemberly Richardson that there have been problems here before.
Sources say that on July 16, someone also pulled out a gun and fired several rounds into the same house.
Many long-time residents said this is a sign of the times, a sad state of where things now stand.
“There were a lot of kids running around, used to be yearly barbecue where everyone would bring a dish but things change, neighborhoods change,” Daniels said.
The suspect, wearing a black jacket and red hoodie, ran away eastbound on East 102nd Street.
No arrests have been made so far.
