Zanzibar has announced its intention to build the tallest skyscraper in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The skyscraper, according to local media reports, will cost about $1.3 billion and timeline for completion is yet to be announced.
The skyscraper is to be named Zanzibar Domino Commercial Tower.
The 70-storey Tower is expected to surpass the semi-autonomous archipelago’s annual budget by over 60%, according to a report monitored by African Entertainment on AFP news agency.
Reports say the skyscraper project will include a man-made island with a marina for yachts and cruise ships.
Also, reports say the project, when completed, will house 560 apartments, luxury hotels, resorts, a golf course and a wedding chapel.
AFP news agency quoted a government official in Zanzibar as saying the project would bolster “the government’s efforts in inviting more local and foreign investors to the isles”.
