Jada Pinkett’s Mom Adrienne Banfield Norris Talks with Momma Tina Knowles-Lawson about Money Moves over The Age 50

Jada Pinkett’s mom Adrienne Banfield Norris talks with momma Tina about being over 50 and still being ambitious, in her podcast Positively Gam.

During the podcast Adrienne Banfield Norris reveals how Tina Knowles-Lawson beginning careers were related to her becoming in the entertainment industry.

“I read that you were a makeup artist at 19 years old and later opened up your own hair salon in Houston all before designing the costumes for your daughters group Destiny’s Child.”

Banfield Norris continued, “like me, a lot of people grow up with this goal from their parents to just go to school graduate from high school and get a job.”

“There’s no right or wrong about that. There’s no judgement but a job is not a career. It seems like right out the gate you had this entrepreneurial spirit. Where did that come from?” she asked.

Momma Tina replied, ” my entrepreneurial came from my parents, my mother. My mother was a seamstress. She was a stay-at-home mom. I thought my mom didn’t work. As I got older, I realized that she worked, and she worked hard.”

“She was a great designer, and she made these beautiful, beaded jackets for women in Galveston and evening gowns and that type of things. She was beadier and a seamstress.” – Tina Knowles-Lawson

Lawson also stated, “She figured out how to make a living.”

The mom of Beyonce and Solange also spoke about how her mom taught her how to sow. She also noted that similar to her daughters she was in a singing group in high school.

“My mother and I made all the costumes. We dressed better than we sang”, Lawson said.

Norris then ask’s, “What inspired you to try new things throughout your life.”

“I’ve been an interior decorator. Anything that is creative I love it. I thrive.”, Momma Tina replies.

The Philanthropist also spoke on how her creativity and talents spread to her daughters.

“They could all open a hair salon today, especially Kelly.”

The Podcast host then ask’s, “so what we are kind of focusing on in this conversation is successful careers later in life. I want to know if you ever felt like your age got in the way of anything that you were trying to achieve?”

The actress of the Lifetime Movie Wrath replied, “No. If anything, the older I got the more confident I got in my ability to do many things. So, I think I got more confidence later on life. I have a bucket list like everybody else and I think I’ve checked off most of the things on my bucket list.”

Although Jada Pinkett’s mom seems very confident with all of her accomplishments. she admitted that she has always been insecure. She says, “I didn’t do anything that my sister didn’t do.”

Lawson admitted that she understood not having the confidence. However, growing up with a 6-year difference between her siblings she had to psych herself out to rise to the occasion.

The Podcast host ask’s, ” do you have any advice for people that are older, and want to still have a successful career, or who might want to make a career change?”

Momma Tina replied, “I think, just to get out there. There have been things that I failed at of course. But I just move on to whatever else the next challenge is. You don’t have to succeed in everything you do. But I think if you don’t try then you’ll never know.”

This is the second season of Adrienne Banfield Norris’s podcast which features raw, in-depth conversations between Gammy and her guests. Topics range from lifestyle, culture, entertainment, to the joys of getting older; proving that you can still have an active life as you age. New episodes every Tuesday!
