A total of 143 students and staff have tested positive for Coronavirus in Ghana.
The Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, made this known to the media at a press briefing held in Accra on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
According to him, Senior High Schools in four regions in Ghana have reported Coronavirus outbreaks.
He mentioned that the regions were Western, Upper West, Greater Accra and Eastern.
He said 23 schools in the Greater Accra region have reported cases of Coronavirus.
According to Dr. Kuma-Aboagye, a total of 56 cases of Covid19 have been confirmed from the 23 schools in Greater Accra.
He said some of the schools included Presec Boys, Royal Agape Academy, WASS2, Wesley Grammar School, Odorkor Cluster of Schools, Achimota SHS.
In the Eastern Region, he said 73 students have tested positive for Coronavirus in the Eastern Region.
He noted that nine staff also tested positive from Coronavirus in the Eastern Region.
“As at 28th January 2021, a total of 553 samples have been tested with 82 positives,” he said.
According to him, “the cases were made up of 73 students, and 9 staff. Males constitute [52 (63.4%] the majority of the confirmed cases.”
He said that “on 31 January 2021, a total of 55 samples were collected from the students and tested with 13 confirmed as positive.”
He added that some four cases have been confirmed in schools in the Upper West and one case confirmed in the Western Region.
