
A large police response could be seen in Chicago after one person was killed and two others injured in a shooting on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., three people were shot while traveling in a vehicle near West 50th Street and South Wood Street in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, authorities said.
A 26-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were in a vehicle heading westbound when they were all shot by two unknown suspects who pulled up alongside them on a motorcycle, authorities said.
The 26-year-old woman was shot in the back and later pronounced dead at a local hospital, authorities said. The 16-year-old was shot in the left leg and left arm and initially listed in critical condition at a local hospital, and the18-year-old was shot in the right hip and initially listed in serious condition, authorities said.
The victim’s vehicle stopped after striking a parked vehicle on the 1700 block of West 50th Street, authorities said.
Police could be seen blocking the intersection and investigating in the area on aerial video captured by NBC Chicago Sky 5.
A dark-colored SUV could be seen with its doors left open near the police investigation.
The shooting occurred down the block from Richard J Daley Elementary Academy, located at 5024 S. Wolcott Ave., though it was not immediately clear if the school was impacted by the incident. Chicago Public Schools did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
No additional information was immediately available.
Detectives are continuing to investigate.
