A 53-year-old father was killed in a hit-and-run late Tuesday night while he appeared to be working on a car on the side of a road in Chicago, surveillance video showed.
Around 11:12 p.m., a man who was later identified as Enrique Nieto was struck by the driver of an orange Honda SUV that was traveling northbound on the 6800 block of South Pulaski Road in the city’s West Lawn neighborhood, authorities said.
Surveillance video of the hit-and-run obtained by NBC Chicago shows what appears to be two people working on a car on the side of the street. Seconds later, Nieto can be seen being struck by the driver of an orange SUV.
The driver fled after striking Nieto, continuing north on South Pulaski Road.
Nieto was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A memorial to Nieto with candles and a photo of him is growing where the crash occurred.
Police are still searching for the driver and Major Accident Detectives are continuing to investigate.
No additional information was immediately available.
