Prodigy star Keith Flint and his band shared £5 million between them in the two years leading up to his death.

Flint, 49, who was found hanged at his £1.5million country mansion in the Essex village of Dunmow on March 4, pocketed earnings of £1.7 million over the period.

He and fellow band members Liam Howlett and Maxim, real name Keith Palmer, split the cash they received equally.

The band made nearly £2 million last year and £3 million the year before, with their popularity still high.

The bulk of their income is understood to have come from touring profits.

In the two year period, they played to sold out crowds around the world, performing in more than 70 gigs and festivals.

The group set up a company called Prodpro LLP in 2013 to channel income from their live gigs around the world.

The partnership called still had nearly £450,000 in cash left in it – a third of which also belongs to Flint.

An inquest opened this week and heard he was found hanged at his countryside home.

He had recently returned from a tour in Australia and locals said they had seen him jogging in the lead up to his death.

The inquest came as Flint’s former bandmates thanked fans for their outpouring of support after his death.

A two-minute hearing was told Flint had died by hanging and a toxicology report was being prepared.

Dave said: ‘He had such an effect on me over the years – his energy and passion while he was on stage or off stage just got me.

‘A statue of Keith is needed to look over Braintree and carry on inspiring the people to follow their dreams.
