Details of who R Kelly’s Goddaughter is just broke due to a family feud within the case. R Kelly’s former artist Sparkle posted a video sharing the full details. In the video she explained how things went down and why certain statements were made.
Sparkle legally named Stephanie Edwards first met R Kelly in 1989.
She then releases an album on R Kelly’s label Rockland label in 1998.
She is best known for the single “Be Careful,” a 1998 duet with R. Kelly, which made it to two of Billboard’s major airplay charts, peaking at No. 3 on the Rhythmic Top 40 and charted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Airplay for six consecutive weeks, while also reaching No. 7 in the UK.
During a video she posted on Friday she revealed that R Kelly’s Goddaughter who he slept with was her niece. But allegations state that she encouraged her niece to “rub R Kelly’s head and ask him to be her Godfather.”
She said, “not all that you heard yesterday from my niece was true. I don’t want to hinder this legal process, I don’t. But to testify that I had my niece sit on Robert’s lap and rub his head is an absolute F’ing lie”.
Sparkle also explained she introduced her family to Kelly at a record studio, not a concert.
Sparkle admitted to introducing her niece to R Kelly back in 2021 during an interview with The Cut. But she also admitted to regretting it.
“I didn’t think I would be emotional. But I am. It’s just been a long time for me, dealing with this,” she said. “On the one hand, I think I’m a little sad because Robert was my ex-mentor and what he did was just a punch to my chest. And I’m also relieved. Thank God they got it right this time. At the first trial, nobody believed me.”
Sparkle says she became suspicious of R. Kelly’s involvement with her teenage niece in 2001.
Those suspicions were heightened after a now-infamous video, which shows Kelly intimately engaging with the girl, on whom he also urinates.
“I was one of the first to call out what I saw on a 27-minute tape as a violation.” She continued, “I mean, nobody was believing me.” “I used to feel like, Am I crazy? Am I the only person seeing this?
Sparkle explained her introducing her sister, brother-in-law, and niece was to help her family. They had a gospel group prior to landing a record deal.
Robert and I were never in a romantic relationship. This journey of mine I started with the greatest intentions and all I’ve gotten was hell.
My niece’s false statement don’t bother me as much as her mindset and willingness to tell the lies. I’m certain it’s from her mom. But she is now old enough to start barring some responsibilities for her actions.
At the end of the day neither denied R Kelly’s Goddaughter was sexually connected to Robert as a teen. But Sparkle claims she had nothing to do with approving it or starting it.
