An investigation in suburban Highland Park is underway after a suspected burglar attempted to break into a house in broad daylight while the homeowner was inside.
The incident took place just before 4 p.m. on Monday Feb. 2, in the 1900 block of Keats Lane, with police receiving a report of a burglary-in-progress.
The homeowner, who was home at the time, did not answer initial knocks to the door, police said. After that, the suspect, a man, kicked in the side door of the home, leaving significant damage. The suspect attempted to gain entry inside but wasn’t successful.
The homeowner later saw a black SUV back out of the driveway, city officials said. An active investigation remains ongoing.
