Team USA earned a pair of medals on Monday at the Olympics, and they took a big step toward another medal later this week.
Bobsled legend Elana Meyers-Taylor finally earned her first career gold medal during the women’s monobob on Monday, and she wasn’t alone on the medal stand as one of her teammates joined her.

Meyers-Taylor, who came into the Olympics with six career medals, finally earned her first gold medal with her performance in the monobob, and she made history in the process, tying Bonnie Blair for the most medals among American women in the history of the Winter Games.
She was joined on the podium by Kaillie Armbruster Humphries, who took home a bronze medal in the competition, with Germany’s Laura Nolte earning a silver medal.
While Team USA didn’t win a medal in women’s hockey, they absolutely took a big step toward winning the gold with an emphatic win over Sweden in the semifinals on Monday.
Naturally, they will face Canada in Thursday’s gold medal game, as the two teams will have now competed in seven of the eight gold medal games in the history of women’s hockey at the Olympics.
USA women’s hockey team says it is “excited” and “ready” as the they prepare to compete for gold on Feb. 19 following a dominant run to the final.
The Dutch speedskating team continued to rack up medals on Monday, with Xandra Velzeboer earning gold in the women’s 1,000m short track event.
Austria also picked up medals in the men’s slalom, a silver to Fabio Gstrein, and a gold in ski jumping. Norway scored bronze medals in both events as they continue to lead the medal count.
Tuesday will feature a pair of big opportunities for Team USA to win more gold medals, including in the men’s team pursuit final on the speedskating rink.
Jessica Perlmutter and Lily Dhawornvej are also in contention for a gold medal in the final of the women’s snowboard slopestyle event.
Medals will also be handed out in two-men bobsled, and the men’s freeski big air final.
