Nearly 300k vehicles recalled by Hyundai due to seat belt defect – NBC Chicago

Nearly 300,000 vehicles were recalled by Hyundai Motor America on Friday because of a seat belt defect that increases the likelihood of injury in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The defect could cause seat belt anchors to detach in the driver and front passenger seats, which would leave occupants inadequately restrained and at higher risk of injury, according to the NHTSA.

More than 294,000 vehicles are affected by the recall that includes specific 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 models, 2023-2026 Genesis G90 vehicles, and 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive notification letters, according to the announcement.

Hyundai dealers will inspect the seat belt anchors and reinforce or replace them if needed, according to NHTSA. Vehicle owners should not be charged for the service.
