A severe thunderstorm outbreak has produced multiple tornadoes in Iowa and Wisconsin, with a storm system bearing down on Illinois.
According to tornado tracking software utilized by the University of Michigan, there have been at least four confirmed tornadoes in the state of Iowa on Tuesday, along with at least one in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin.
As of 5:45 p.m., a “confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado” was reported just northwest of the Wisconsin Dells, moving toward Elroy and Mauston, forecasters warned.
As of 5:29 p.m. Tuesday, another tornado was confirmed to be on the ground near the city of Fennimore in Wisconsin, located in the southwest corner of the state.
The storm that produced the tornado was also producing quarter-size hail, according to the National Weather Service.
Another tornado warning had been issued in Madison, home of the University of Wisconsin, but there were no immediate confirmed reports of a tornado. That storm also was producing massive hail, with radar indicating hailstones of up to three inches in diameter, officials said.
Another confirmed tornado was reported in Masonville, Iowa on Tuesday afternoon, moving east at 30 miles per hour as of 5:30 p.m.
The storm also reportedly was producing tennis ball-size hail, according to spotters.
