The Chicago area has seen a few days of cooler temperatures, but a warm-up is on the way this week, along with a few chances of showers and storms.
The first of those chances will arrive on Tuesday, and while severe weather isn’t expected, it could still prove to be an issue during the afternoon commute, according to forecast models.
Before those showers and storms arrive, temperatures will be quite a bit warmer than in previous days, with southerly breezes pushing those readings back up into the mid-to-upper 70s, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
As the afternoon moves along, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, especially in eastern parts of the Chicago area. Those storms will slowly move to the south, arriving in the city and the southern suburbs as the afternoon commute gets underway.
While severe weather isn’t expected, some heavy rain could occur in isolated locations, with the storms slowly moving off to the southeast as the evening moves along.
Wednesday and Thursday will be much nicer and temperatures will remain on the warm side. Wednesday will see highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, and Thursday things will be even warmer, with highs rising into the upper-70s and even the low-80s across the city and suburbs.
The next chance of precipitation in the area is expected to arrive on Friday, and that round of showers and thunderstorms could be more impactful, with a cold front driving toward the region and impacting the city and suburbs Friday morning and into the afternoon, according to forecast models.
After the cold front moves through, temperatures are expected to cool off Saturday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s.
Another chance of rain could arrive Sunday and into Monday, though it won’t impact temperatures, as they’ll continue to be in the mid-to-upper 60s.
