The Chicago Cubs will get a key member of their roster back Sunday, as closer Daniel Palencia was activated from the injured list.
Palencia has been out of action since April 12 with a left oblique strain, and made a rehab appearance for the Iowa Cubs on Friday.
In five relief appearances for the Cubs this season, Palencia is 1-0 with a perfect ERA, with one save to his credit on the year.
In a corresponding roster move, reliever Yacksiel Rios was designated for assignment.
Bringing back Palencia is a bit of good news for a Cubs bullpen that has been hammered by injuries so far this season. Riley Martin remains on the injured list with a flexor strain in his elbow, while Caleb Thielbar was placed on the injured list in late April with a left hamdstring strain.
Ethan Roberts and Hunter Harvey also remain on the injured list for the Cubs.
First pitch between the Cubs and Diamondbacks will take place at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, with Matthew Boyd taking the mound as the Cubs go for a series sweep.
