A happy ending has arrived for two abandoned dogs – one big, one little – found together along Chicago train tracks.
Bird, a chihuahua short coat and pug mix, and Dee, a German shepherd, went viral last week after they were discovered together – clearly having formed an incredible connection.
They’ve since been adopted and have a new home – together.
Just four days ago – they were living in a cage at the Anti-Cruelty Society after surviving as strays.
“When I saw them, I was completely melted,” said Claire McKeveny, who adopted the bonded dogs.
After McKeveny discovered the bonded pair on social media, she knew they would be the perfect addition to her family.
“We were very pragmatic, we have two young children, and we didn’t want to give these two a home that wouldn’t be what they deserve, but it just felt right,” she stated.
The feeling looks to be mutual.
Bird and Dee are still cozied up to each other; Bird loves to sleep right on top of her big brother.
But they are fully embracing their new space, which comes with plenty of pets, snuggles and treats from four adoring humans.
“I knew what they had was special and for zero reason, under any circumstance, should they ever be broken apart,” said Evan Dunlap, who adopted the dogs.
Bird and Dee are believed to be about one year old, maybe younger.
They’ve lived a lot of life in a short time – and despite the struggle – have found a home.
“You can tell they are really relieved,” McKeveny said.
The family said over the weekend, Bird and Dee became Chicago celebrities. While out on walks, people recognized them from social media – wanting to pet them and mostly offer words of gratitude and happiness at seeing the pups’ happy ending.
