Funeral arrangements have been made for a Chicago firefighter who died after suffering a medical emergency during a training incident.
It has been announced a visitation will be held in Steve Decker’s honor on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. at Colonia Funeral Home in Chicago.
A private funeral and cremation ceremony will be held later this week, according to a local funeral home.
According to the department, 61-year-old Steve Decker passed away Thursday after he suffered the emergency during an annual equipment test.
Decker was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We are asking for prayers for the entire Decker & CFD families during this difficult time,” the department wrote on social media.
It marks the second big loss for the department following the death of firefighter Michael Altman, who was killed battling a blaze in Chicago less than two months ago.
Decker was a firefighter for more than 30 years, serving in a firehouse in the West Ridge neighborhood, according to the department.
He leaves behind his wife Colleen and his stepchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Tunnels for Towers Foundation, or to another charity in Decker’s name.
