A suburban school was evacuated and major roadways closed due to “emergency activity” Thursday afternoon, police said.
Addison police and fire departments were actively investigating in the area of Lombard Road between Army Trail Road and Driscoll Lane. The roadways were blocked off due to the response, police said.
As part of the investigation, Stone Elementary School students and staff were evacuated “safely,” officials said, calling the move a “precautionary measure.”
“Staff and emergency personnel are actively investigating the situation. The safety and well-being of the students and staff remain our top priority,” police said in an alert to residents just after 1 p.m.
Shortly after, police updated the alert to say an investigation remained ongoing, saying authorities and school administration “are investigating a potential swatting call involving Stone Elementary School.”
“This remains an ongoing investigation, and the safety of the students and staff remain our top priority. Please stay away from the area. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation,” the update read.
Further details on the investigation weren’t immediately released.
