A 56-year-old woman was killed by a flying patio umbrella that struck her while she dined at a lakeside restaurant in South Carolina.
The incident occurred on May 23 at the Driftwood Grill Home of the Lazy Gator on Lake Marion in Summerton, according to NBC affiliate WYFF.
The woman was dining with her husband on Saturday evening when a sudden strong gust of wind blew an umbrella from a nearby table, which struck her in the head and neck area, according to the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office.
The woman, identified Monday as Dana Weinger, of Huger, died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
In a statement posted to its Facebook page, Driftwood Grill said, “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and loved ones affected by the tragic incident during last night’s sudden severe weather event at Lake Marion.”
No other details have been released.
