Six Flags Great America in Gurnee will host a giant party this weekend as the popular theme park celebrates the big 5-0.
The amusement park, which opened for the 2026 season in April will host an Anniversary Day Bash on May 29.
“Celebrating 50 years is an incredible milestone for Six Flags Great America,” John Krajnak, Six Flags Great America Park president said in a release. “What makes this season truly special is the people, both past and
present, who have brought this park to life every day. This anniversary is our chance to celebrate what
made the park special in 1976 while embracing the new experiences we’re creating for today’s guests.”
The party begins at 11 a.m. in Hometown Square, with complimentary party hats and special treats given out to park guests. The park will also welcome back its original 1976 barbershop quartet — now known as Four of a Kind — to perform throughout the park for one day only.
May 29 also marks the first day Six Flags will open its exclusive anniversary shop with limited-edition merchandise, the release said. It will also debut a “Legacy Museum” with immersive artifacts, archival photos, signs, memorabilia and more.
“The experience invites guests to step back in time and explore the evolution of the park from its beginnings as Marriott’s Great America to the world‑class destination it is today,” the release said.
The bash will end in the evening, the release said, with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
The park’s anniversary extended anniversary celebration officially starts June 20 and runs through Aug. 9, with a new nighttime drone show, nostalgic entertainment, speciality food and beverage and more.
