Rihanna is crowning all titles, from beauty mogul to artist to President award recipient. Fans are still waiting for the ninth album, but are glad to see she can shine outside of just albums and performances.
Complex has reported that Rihanna will be given the award by NAACP president Derrick Johnson during the 51st NAACP Image Awards later this month. Per the NAACP, this award recognizes the recipients’ achievements and “distinguished public service.”
“Rihanna has not only enjoyed a groundbreaking career as an artist and musician but has also distinguished herself as a stellar public servant,” Johnson said. “From her business achievements through Fenty to her tremendous record as an activist and philanthropist, Rihanna epitomizes the type of character, grace, and devotion to justice that we seek to highlight in our President’s Award.”
Rihanna is more than a candidate for the award, as she has been vocal in gender and racial biases through out her career. Rihanna has used her platform to help many including being vocal on the Free Cyntoia Brown move, as well as encouraging her fans to vote. Rihanna has broke barriers in the beauty industry when it comes to African American women presentations, ensuring that her line carries all complexion matches. Additionally, she created the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012, which was started in memory of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The funds it collects go to forwarding education and emergency programs around the globe in an effort to improve the quality of life for the world’s youth.
Rihanna has also been open about her personal life, walking away from a not so healthy relationship in efforts of being an example to many young women who are looking up to her. Bad Gal RiRi is staying ten toes down to her career, her calling, her life and her fans.
Catch RiRi’s triumphant moment at The 51st NAACP Image Awards, this will be airing on BET at 8 p.m. ET on Feb. 22.
