Supreme Court Agrees To Broadcast Presidential Election Petition Hearings Live

The Supreme Court of Ghana has announced its desire to broadcast the proceedings of the December 7, 2020 presidential election petition live.

Former President and Flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama, filed the presidential election petition, challenging the victory of incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo in the election held last year.

A number of civil society organizations and media outlets in Ghana have appealed for the proceedings to be broadcasted live.

And during the initial hearing on Thursday, January 14, 2021, the Supreme Court made its intention known.

Mr Mahama has expressed delight about the Court’s decision.

In a post sighted by African Entertainment on his official Facebook page, Mr Mahama who was at the Supreme Court earlier today, said “The Supreme Court this morning granted the motion for amendment of my petition challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election declared by the Electoral Commission.”

He added that “As is the desire of many Ghanians, the Court also announced its decision to broadcast live the proceedings of the court.”
