Rawlings Burial Service Starts

The burial service of late former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings, has begun.

The funeral is taking place at the Independence Square in the national capital, Accra.

Guests have started arriving as early as 7:45am.

The final funeral rites come on the back of a two-day lying in state and filing past of his mortal remains at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The final filing past is taking place from 8:00am to 9:00am this morning.

Former President John Mahama, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and other individuals including the family of Mr Rawlings have filed past his body for the final time this morning.

Mr Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short sickness.

He was born in 1947 aged 73 and was a two time democratically elected president after initially assuming power as a military ruler.
