President Akufo-Addo Appoints New CDS

A new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) has been appointed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Presidency in a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications in the Office of the President, announced the appointment of Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, as Acting CDS.

According to the statement, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama is to act as Chief of Defence Staff, effective Friday, 5th February 2021, pending consultation with the yet-to-be-constituted Council of State.

His appointment comes as the current CDS, Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, is expected to retire from the Ghana Armed Forces, on 5th February 2021.

The statement indicated that “the President has expressed his gratitude to him for his dedicated and meritorious service to the Ghana Armed Forces and to the nation.”

Until his new appointement, Rear Admiral Yakubu was the Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the statement, the President will in due course appoint a new Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces.
