A Ghanaian police officer, General Constable Eugene Yelnona, has allegedly shot himself dead while on duty.
He was said to be assigned to provide protection to an exiled Togolese opposition leader, Olympio, in Accra, the capital of Ghana.
But African Entertainment understands that General Constable Eugene Yelnona, allegedly shot himself dead with his duty gun in a washroom at his duty point at Ridge, a suburb of Accra during the dawn of Monday, February 1, 2021.
Information available to African Entertainment suggest that he was attached to the National Protection Unit (NPU).
His alleged suicide comes barely 48 hours Superintendent Cyprian McCarthy Zenge, 57, the Jomoro Municipal Police Commander, also reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his gun in his room at Half Assini.
African Entertainment is informed that Constable Yelnona, had been sick for the past months.
He was said to be on sick leave and it is believed that his sick leave ended on January 29, 2021.
Security sources say “The police officer on Friday January 29, 2021, reported at his unit seeking for an extension of his leave to continue with his medication and treatment at home but he was denied the leave extension and put on guard duty at the residence of Mr. Olympio.”
African Entertainment gathered from sources that Constable Yelnona was battling ‘psychological’ problems and that it was because of that he wanted an extension of his sick leave which he was never granted.
