President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed some 11 persons to the Council of State.
This was announced in a statement from the Jubilee House signed by acting Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin.
According to the statement, the immediate past Chairman of the Council who is the Paramount Chief of Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, is a member of the newly constituted Council.
It said the remaining 10 appointees are Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, lawyer and politician, Sam Okudzeto and former Mayor of Accra, Stanley Adjiri Blankson, Professor Ato Essuman, a former Chief Director at the Ministry of Education and Dean of the Faculty of Education and Entrepreneurship (FEE) at the Methodist University College, Alhaji Aminu Amadu, academic and diplomat, Dr. Margaret Amoakohene, Georgina Kusi, Alberta Cudjoe, the Tumu Kuoro, Richard Babini Kanton VI and Alhaji Sule Yiremiah.
According to the statement, the appointment was pursuant to Article 89(2) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic.
Furthermore, Mr Akufo-Addo has in consultation with Parliament, appointed Georgina Theodora Wood, a former Chief Justice, Lt. Gen. J.B. Danquah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces, and Nana Owusu Nsiah, a former Inspector General of Police, to the Council in accordance with Article 89(2)(a)(i)(ii) and (iii) of the same Constitution.
President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, is ex-officio member of the Council, in furtherance of Article 89(2)(b).
Aside the appointments, members of the Council from the regional level are expected to be elected nationwide on February 12, 2021, in accordance with Article 89(2)(c).
