Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has joined the increasing number of Nigerians celebrating Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her soon to be record-breaking appoint as WTO director-general.
Upon the World Trade Organization’s anticipated announcement, the Nigerian economist will be the first black woman to ever head the trade organization.
Ahead of WTO’s announcement, the Nollywood filmmaker took to Instagram to celebrate the Okonjo-Iweala. She wrote: “Congratulations to Mrs #ngoziokonjoiweala on making history as the first woman and African to head WTO”.
Recall South Korea’s candidate’s withdrawal from the race followed by the United States’ support sped up Okonjo-Iweala’s chances. In a recent interview with CNN, Okonjo-Iweala argued that the organization needed a leader now more than ever due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The WTO needs a leader at this time. It needs a fresh look, a fresh face, an outsider, someone with the capability to implement reforms and to work with members to make sure the WTO comes out of the partial paralysis that it’s in,” Okonjo-Iweala shared.
