Lawmakers in Iran have demanded punishment for the country’s President, Hassan Rouhani, over a recent atomic energy deal.
According to the lawmakers, the agreement recently reached between the Iranian government and the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog is “illegal”.
As such, the lawmakers want the President to be punished for the “illegal deal”.
During a public vote televised on Aljazeera on Monday, February 22, 2021, majority of the MPs voted to file a report by the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on the agreement reached with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the judiciary for review.
Majority of lawmakers condemned the Iranian government deal with the IAEA during the voting process.
According to the report, the deal which was sealed on Sunday, February 21, this year between the IAEA and the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) constitutes a “clear violation” of a law passed by Parliament in December 2020.
Per that law passed in December, according to reports, the Government of Iran is supposed to stop the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, which gives broad authorities to IAEA inspectors, from Tuesday.
