Some 16 people have been confirmed dead in a gory car crash in Ghana.
Among the dead is a 3-year-old boy. The crash occurred around 1:30am on Friday, February 26, 2021.
The crash involved two grand bird buses which according to eyewitnesses, collided head-on. One of the drivers was believed to be sleeping while driving.
Aside those dead, officials have confirmed that several persons have sustained life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred along the Accra-Kumasi highway.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and personnel from the Police Service visited the scene to rescue injured persons believed to have been trapped in the two crash vehicles.
Ghana is notorious for recording deadly crashes along its highways.
About three weeks ago, some 26 persons lost their lives in two separate crashes in the Savannah Region. At least 70 others suffered injuries in those two crashes as well.
There has been calls in the past to expand major highways to prevent such deadly crashes.
Much of what the Government has been able to do is to pay visits to bereaved families of victims of car crashes, make donations, take care of the burial costs of those dead and pay hospital bills of those injured, after which the nothing is done until another serious crash. And the ritual could extend to the families of those 16 persons who have been confirmed dead in the latest crash.
