Some Ghanaians Threatened to Kill Me Because of Ebony

Wendy Shay

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian female musician and Rufftown Records signee, Wendy Shay, has revealed how during the early days of her music career in Ghana, her life was under threat because of the late Ebony.

Ebony was a female musician signed onto Rufftown Records. Ebony, born on February 16, 1997, in Kumasi, was killed in a car crash on February 8, 2018, aged 20.

The late Ebony

In a five-minutes, thirty-seven seconds documentary released ahead of the launch of her upcoming studio album, Ms. Shay pointed out how her life has been tormented in the past because of Ebony, with some Ghanaians allegedly threatening to kill her.

“I was officially introduced to Ghanaians on the night of VGMA 2018,” she said in the documentary sighted by African Entertainment on her Instagram page, noting that “and right after, the Cyber bullying began. Some people thinking I was in to replace the late Ebony, started sending me threatening messages, some say they will kill me.”

Beginning of Shay’s Music Career

In the documentary, Wendy Shay touched on her nursing career she had to sacrifice to pursue her music career.

“Life is all about taking your chances and preparedness,” she stated in an inspirational tune to open her documentary.

According to Wendy Shay who claimed that her entire music career has been rocked by controversy, cyber bullying, hate messages, among others, she was introduced to Bullet, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rufftown Records in December 2017 by her Godfather, Kwasi Ernest. She said she came to Ghana from Germany with just €50.

She says Bullet finally agreed to working with her in March 2018.

“So I had to make a decision to quit my nursing career in Germany and come to Ghana to pursue my dreams in music,” says Wendy Shay, who is known in private life as Wendy Asiamah Addo.

“I came to Ghana with just €50,” she said, adding that ” I finally met Bullet, we signed a contract and started recording songs,” the Ghanaian afropop and afrobeats singer born on February 20, 1996 (aged 25) says.

Lamentations over cyber bullying, embarrassment

Five months after being introduced to Ghanaians at VGMA 2018, she recounted that she dropped her first album titled: ‘Shay on You’ and won 13 awards with five hit-songs.

Since then, she said, it has been cyber bullying, and embarrassment, even by some of her colleagues in the music industry.

The Uber Driver hitmaker lamented that “no one really wanted to know my story.”
