    Gbagbo seeking to form new political party


     

    Former President of Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo, is seeking to form a new political party.

    Local media reports say he is making moves to exit his FPI party.

    It would be recalled that Mr Gbagbo returned to Cote d’Ivoire in June 2021 after 10 years in exile standing trial for alleged war crimes at the International Criminal Court.

    He was on trial for the Civil conflict that took place after the 2010 Ivoren presidential election in which he refused to concede defeat to now incumbent President Alassane Ouattara.

    At least 3,000 lives were reportedly lost during the Civil War.

    Gbagbo founded the FPI party in 1982 but it reportedly developed deep division during his time in prison at The Hague.
