Tina Knowles-Lawson Recounts the Particular Moment She Humbled Beyoncé After Her Daughter Started Making It Big In the Music Industry

Tina Knowles-Lawson took a trip down through memory lane on Monday, Aug. 23, by sharing a throwback clip of her daughter Beyoncé, recalling a time Knowles-Lawson “humbled” her as she rose to stardom.

This initial confession occurred during a “106 & Park” 2006 special where the singer not only celebrated her birthday but also the release of her sophomore solo album, “B-Day.”

Rocsi Diaz and Terrance J, who were the hosts of the countdown music video show at the time, asked Beyoncé’s parents if she was always “so humble,” especially with her becoming incredibly successful in the entertainment industry at a young age.

The singer then jumped in and recalled how the success of Destiny’s Child“s first single “No, No, No” in 1998 almost went over her head. Although Beyoncé claimed she was 15 at the time, there are conflicting reports that state she was 17. “I’ll tell the story–when “No, No, No” first came out I thought I was grown. I was 15-years-old and we had a number one single.I thought I was hot and I was at a record store it was all young kids, teenagers. My mom was telling me something and I kept singer while she was talking ignoring her. She smacked the mess out of me.”

She continued as the crowd laughed, “when I tell you I was embarrassed.” As the recording went on Beyoncé began to demonstrate how the initial interaction happened. The “Drunk in Love” vocalist stated as she hummed throughout the clip, “Cause I like (makes humming sounds) she said ‘don’t you sing while I’m talking to you.’ I was like (makes humming sounds). She said bop. I was oh my go and I’ll never forget that. I’ve never done anything like that. I’m so happy she did it because it grounded me.”

In addition to the video, Knowles-Lawson shared in the caption why she considered that moment a pivotal part in her daughter’s life. The 67-year-old wrote although she wasn’t proud to hit Beyoncé, she feared that entertainer would be easily consumed in the industry.

“I am not proud of that moment but I did not do it out of anger, I did it out of fear! Fear of losing my beautiful humble spirited respectful daughter. You see I’ve seen people change so fast after one hit record and become the most impossible divas ! I prayed every day to God to protect my three girls and to keep them humble and kind. He answered my prayers ❤️🙏🏽.”

As fans began to view her post, many applauded Knowles-Lawson for a job well done on raising Beyoncé.

“Momma Tina ain’t with the disrespect!! 😂❤️.”

“Those Mama slaps hit different lol it usually only takes one time, too 😩.”

“Black Mommas will always GATHER you! However they’re always looking out for our best interests. ❤️.”

“Queen Tina did what she had to do and we all see the results. Queen Bey 🙌🏽❤️🔥❤️🔥.”

“Bravo to you Mrs. Tina!! 🙌🏾❤️.”
