Latto and Mariah Carey Big Energy Remix, is total big energy. The history of the original song marks continuous new beginnings for each artist that has jumped on the track in some kind of way.
Tom Tom Club marked a new beginning with the original song Genius of Love. The song ended up performing better than any other single they had released. Not to mention, it paid tribute to many notable black musicians and singers, including George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Smokey Robinson, Bob Marley, Sly and Robbie, Kurtis Blow, Hamilton Bohannon, and James Brown.
Mariah Carey sampled the beat after Tom Tom Club with her Fantasy hit. The song was written by Mariah Carey, and Dave Hall. The track was produced by Sean Puffy Combs and featured ODB on the track.
Record breaking, Fantasy became the first song by a female artist, and second overall to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100, topping the chart for eight consecutive weeks. Additionally, it became Carey’s ninth number one on the chart.
Now let’s, talk about Latto. Latto had a vision of love in which she shared during her New Years vision board party. Part of her manifestation was to evolve in her artistry for 2022. Fate would happen when she traveled to L.A for a change of scenery. Latto, stated her A&R didn’t really want to play the track for her because they thought she would not like it.
However, her manager wanted to give the track a full shot and suggested they play it.
“I fell in love with the beat. It’s crazy to think that they weren’t even going to play the song that’s getting all this attention. I tried it that night. It was very different for me, and definitely took me out of my comfort zone, [but] I didn’t give up. I tried it three different days before I was in pocket with it and got in my zone — but when I did, it was up from there.”
“I would definitely say it was fate. If it is meant to be, it will be, regardless. Trying different sounds and not giving up is the most important thing. You just have to be patient. Music is not always going to be a mechanical math equation, where it’s one plus one equals two. It’s not always that simple. It’s all a matter of not giving up, with a little bit of fate. The fact that they weren’t going to play that beat for me, it’s beyond coincidental,” she continued to say.
“Big Energy” has since gone on to become Latto’s second Billboard Hot 100 hit, and has also landed her a collab with icon Mariah Carey. Hence, the evolution manifestation.
Latto has collabed with many artists like Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Trina and Rihanna. Nevertheless, Mariah Carey is a huge win for the artist list. She is also one of the few full R&B/ Pop artists collaborating with Latto, as the other women are primarily rap artists, with the exception of Rihanna.
Latto will release her album 777 this year. The numbers are a sign of guidance as well as completion and protection.
