Batavia-based ALDI is accelerating its clean-up of ingredients and building on a removal of certified synthetic colors from private-label products.
The discount grocery store giant announced last week it is expanding its removal of 44 ingredients including select artificial preservatives, colors, flavors and sweeteners from private label food, vitamins and supplements, according to a news release.
ALDI intends to eliminate a total of 57 ingredients by December 2027.
Reformulated products will roll out in phases between now and the deadline, and as changes are made, updated ingredient information will be reflected on the packaging.
Aldi said it is “working closely” with suppliers to ensure reformulated products meet its quality benchmarks, noting it tastes products up to five a year to ensure its “products meet or beat the quality of pricier national brands.”
The new groups of ingredients are expected to be removed by the end of next year.
The ingredients slated to be eliminated are:
