The city of Chicago is hoping to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, and party officials are in town this week for a closer look.
Chicago is one of five cities that have been named finalists to host either the 2028 or 2032 DNC, along with Atlanta, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia.
This week, the city’s host committee, which includes Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson, is hosting party leaders from the DNC, as well as its site selection committee and Technical Advisory Group.
Those officials will hold several days of meetings, and will visit the United Center and other sites that could be part of DNC programming, according to itineraries reviewed by NBC Chicago.
The party will aim to assess the logistical and operational components of the city’s hosting bid, but they won’t just be looking at charts and sites for events.
They’ll also be taking in the sights on an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River, and they’ll also attend an event at the Obama Presidential Center, visiting with city luminaries, business leaders and more, according to officials.
Chicago is obviously no stranger to hosting political conventions, having hosted the last DNC in 2024 and a total of 12 conventions overall.
It’s unknown when Democrats will make their decision on a host site for the convention, but Republicans have already chosen their host city for 2028, with their convention heading to Houston, Texas.
