Federal prosecutors have charged multiple individuals, including a Chicago rapper, in connection with a violent home invasion in suburban Winnetka that investigators say involved kidnapping and a targeted attempt to steal cryptocurrency.
According to a federal indictment, the home invasion happened March 8 at a residence on Rosewood Avenue. Authorities alleged one person posed as a food delivery driver to gain entry before others forced their way inside at gunpoint.
Once inside, prosecutors said the suspects held a victim captive for about an hour, using firearms to restrain them while demanding access to a safe, computer and cryptocurrency accounts.
Rapper accused of helping plan crime
Among those charged is Isaiah Dukes, 28, also known as rapper Lil Zay Osama. Federal authorities allege Dukes was not inside the home during the invasion but helped coordinate the crime.
Court documents state that during the home invasion, one of the suspects inside the residence called Dukes, who then provided instructions on how to obtain cryptocurrency from the victims.
After the suspects fled the home, prosecutors said they later met up with Dukes and others, who searched the group to ensure all proceeds from the robbery had been collected.
Charges and arrests
A federal grand jury has charged six men — Dashun Brown, David Franklin, Anthony Ramsey, Isaiah Dukes, Khiell Dukes and Jalen Chambers — with conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping.
Authorities said three of the suspects were taken into custody March 22, while others, including Dukes, were arrested April 10. A seventh person was arrested April 28, with charges still pending.
All six charged defendants have pleaded not guilty and have been ordered held in custody pending trial.
The kidnapping conspiracy charge carries a potential sentence of life in prison, while the robbery conspiracy charge is punishable by up to 20 years.
Details from the indictment
According to the superseding indictment, the group allegedly used a stolen vehicle to travel to the home, posed as a delivery driver to gain entry, brandished firearms and restrained a victim, and demanded access to cryptocurrency and valuables.
Prior federal case involving Dukes
Dukes has previously faced federal charges. In 2024, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to possessing a machine gun — specifically a Glock pistol modified with a switch — which authorities said he left in a rideshare vehicle.
Ongoing investigation
Federal officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could follow. Authorities emphasized that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
