Covid-19 Positive Varane To Miss Real Madrid vs Liverpool Clash

Raphael Varane

French defender, Raphael Varane, will miss Real Madrid vs Liverpool UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg after returning a positive result for Coronavirus.

Real Madrid are hosting Liverpool tonight, Wednesday, April 6, 2021, in Spain.

The match is set to kickoff around 7:00pm. But the club announced in a statement sighted by African Entertainment on its official website that Varane has tested positive for the virus.

“Real Madrid CF informs that our player Raphael Varane has given a positive result in the Covid-19 test that has been carried out this morning,” according to the statement.

Due to the positive result, Varane has to self-quarantine, meaning he cannot be part of tonight’s squad for Los Blancos.

Varane is also likely to miss the return leg in Merseyside, England next week.

Madrid’s captain, Sergio Ramos, had earlier been ruled out for the Liverpool Clash which is being staged at Alfredo Di Stefano tonight.
