Incidentally, at the 4th Filmfare Awards in 1957, the late Dilip Kumar had also won the Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Devdas in the film of the same name. Like in 2003, Devdas led the nominations at the time with four nominations, sharing the honour with Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje. Vyjayanthimala had starred as Chandramukhi while actor Suchitra Sen had made her Bollywood debut as Paro. The 1955 film was directed by Bimal Roy. Moti Lal had also won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Chunni Babu in the film. Actor Jackie Shroff had reprised the role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.
