The King of Zulu, South Africa, Goodwill Zwelithini, is reported to be battling for his life.
King Zwelithini, according to reports, has been placed in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to be thoroughly treated for diabetes.
South Africa’s media outlet, The Citizen, on Sunday, February 7, 2021, published excepts of a statement it claimed to have been issued by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the traditional Prime Minister of Zulu nation.
According to the statement, the King’s unstable glucose situation was being treated with particular caution.
That, it said, was as a result of the risk that diabetes poses in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
The statement further noted that “Over the past few weeks, several unstable glucose readings have raised concern, and His Majesty was required to visit a hospital in Zululand to attend to this.”
“Unfortunately the problem did not fully resolve, and His Majesty has had to return to hospital to stabilise his glucose levels once again. His doctors have felt it necessary to place him in ICU to deal with this thoroughly,” it stated.
The statement indicated that the king was receiving the necessary care.
It revealed that South Africa’s health minister Zweli Mkhize was aware of the situation.
