The Chicago Cubs’ pitching staff has taken another hit as starter Edward Cabrera has landed on the 15-day injured list.
Cabrera left his last appearance against the Milwaukee Brewers with a blister on his right middle finger, and that ailment has led to him being placed on the injured list prior to Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros.
In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs have recalled pitcher Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa.
Cabrera is the latest Cubs player to land on the injured list. Currently the team has two starting pitchers on the IL, with Matthew Boyd having undergone knee surgery and Cade Horton done for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Justin Steele is also still on the injured list after suffering a forearm strain while rehabbing from his own Tommy John surgery.
In 54 innings of work this season, Cabrera has a 3-2 record and a 4.00 ERA, with 47 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Wicks has made seven starts with the Iowa Cubs this season, with a 4.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work.
The Cubs will take on the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field Sunday, with first pitch set for 1:20 p.m.
